International Naming Conventions presentation

International naming conventions are different around the globe, and this was something that I had to learn along the way when I began in international education in 2003. No one told me what the conventions were, and it was very difficult to try and match up records with application files until I did learn them. I added this presentation to the required training for any new international evaluator on our team, and it seems to be helpful for them. I decided to share this presentation with my NAFSA colleagues. I presented this session at the NAFSA Texas State Meeting at Texas Tech University on 4 March 2016. Here is the handout: International Naming Conventions_NAFSA TX State Mtg 2016_Notes View. The video of the presentation rehearsal I did the day before the meeting is available on YouTube here: Link to “International Naming Conventions” rehearsal video.

Introduction to Int’l Credential Evaluation

I recently presented a session at the NAFSA Region 3 conference in Rogers, Arkansas, entitled “Introduction to International Credential Evaluation”. The session went really well, and I am pleased to be able to present a copy of the PowerPoint handout and the workbook I mentioned in the session. Please note that this workbook was created for my office’s training needs, and it may not be the best training tool for your purposes. You should adapt it for what your office needs. The workbook is quite large, so I was not able to send it to the session attendees as I had hoped to do. Holler if you have any questions. Happy evaluating!

The Wonderful World of International Admissions…

Greetings, everyone! Welcome to my blog on international admissions. More specifically, welcome to my space on the web to share what I’ve collected about international admissions. I began working in Graduate Admissions almost eight years ago (mainly international admissions, but I also deal with some domestic admissions issues) with a lot of enthusiasm, but not a whole lot of resources. I quickly began researching as much as I could and have amassed quite a bit that I’m happy to share with you. My hope for this blog is that it becomes a reference tool for my fellow international admissions colleagues.

Let me know what you think!

Until next time, Shelby
