Redacting Credentials Slide Deck

I recently shared a slide deck with the TAICEP Gaggle listserv and with the AACRAO EDGE monthly user group webinar attendees which explained how to redact credentials using two different services: one is Adobe Acrobat Professional (which is a paid subscription), while the other is an online AI-based image redaction site (which is free). These are not the only two options you have for redacting credentials, but these are two that I use frequently. The free online image editor does not keep your images, and it’s very easy to use.

CINALC: A Regional Recognition Network for Latin America and the Caribbean

Garrett Seelinger from InCred/National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics and I gave a presentation on CINALC at the 110th AACRAO Annual Meeting in Seattle, Washington, on 31 March 2025. Gonzalo Baroni Boces, President of CINALC, also participated via a pre-recorded video since he was not able to join us in person. The session description is below:

Join us for an introduction to CINALC, a UNESCO-prompted effort among nations in Latin America and the Caribbean to facilitate educational mobility in the region. We’ll discuss the history and plans for implementation of policies that are intended to improve the quality of higher education as well as facilitate the mobility of learners and qualified workers throughout the region.

The slide deck is below.

Introduction to Research in International Credential Evaluation

Karen Krug (Educational Credential Evaluations [ECE], Inc.), Amanda Shoaf Morrison (Scholaro, Inc.), and I gave a two-part session at the 110th Annual AACRAO Meeting in Seattle, Washington, on 31 March 2025. The session description is here:

What do you do if you have a degree from a country that no longer exists, or a university that has been closed for years? This session creates a research roadmap to tackle tough questions in international credential evaluation. We will delve into strategic use of resources by age, from books to AI, documenting research, and policies to ensure consistency across evaluations to save time. Cultivating consistent research habits at your institution creates a toolbox that benefits all stakeholders.

The two slide decks are below.

Additionally, Amanda created a “Research Roadmap” with more details for international credential evaluators to follow. Thank you to her for sharing this incredible resource with our community!

Survey of Religious Education

My colleagues Stephanie Cloninger (AACRAO), Matthew Cwiklinski (Scholaro, Inc.), Lindsey Gullicksrud (Educational Credential Evaluators, Inc./ECE), and I recently prepared and delivered a pre-conference workshop at the 2024 TAICEP Annual Conference in Quebec City entitled “Survey of Religious Education”. This four-hour workshop covered  pontifical, madrasah, and yeshiva education in depth, with a focus on secondary and post-secondary academic credentials. We covered the following:

  • Samples of religious education documents that credential evaluators might see
  • How to find the appropriate recognition or confirm that there is no legal recognition, including a discussion about approved versus recognized (i.e., allowed to operate versus allowed to operate AND getting a higher secondary certificate which allows access to tertiary education)
  • How to find legislation governing religious education

A copy of our slide deck and the reference guide we created to accompany the workshop are both available here:

Credential Quandaries: Developing Policy to Evaluate Credentials from Limited Recognition Countries

I presented a session at the 109th AACRAO Annual Meeting on Wednesday, 10 April 2024, called “Credential Quandaries: Developing Policy to Evaluate Credentials from Limited Recognition Countries”. A copy of the slide deck handout and of the Notes View of the slide deck is available below. I also have a link to the practice session I recorded available here: https://youtu.be/uy5Xz5KFWtc.

Update to the Website!

I recently updated the look of this website. I am currently working on editing this site to be specifically related to international credential evaluation. You may notice that some previous pages are no longer available. I am still working on the structure of the site, so it’s possible that I may republish some of those pages, although they will possibly be in a different format. Never fear though: I archived all the pages in the Internet Archive’s Wayback Machine! Let me know what you think of the new look!

France Accreditation Cheat Sheet

Determining recognition/accreditation in France can be challenging. My friend and colleague Amanda Shoaf Morrison from Scholaro recently posted her France Accreditation cheat sheet on the TAICEP listserv, and she has graciously given me permission to share it on this site. Amanda succinctly explains that accreditation in France is programmatic and what credential evaluators should look for when trying to determine if a program is accredited. I fully admit that I still occasionally get baffled with French accreditation, so I find this document SO HELPFUL and refer it to whenever I need some guidance. Merci, mon ami!

Overview of Education in the Holy See

I prepared an overview of education in the Holy See for the Association of International Credential Evaluators’ monthly forum today. A copy of the PDF handout is available. The practice video is available here: https://youtu.be/w6qBcS0gGl0

Additionally, I created a short video to review an affiliated major seminary transcript/ecclesiastical faculty diploma credential and how to determine recognition. You can access that video here: https://youtu.be/4niEBmrqoZQ
